Most AI image prompts chase labels (“DSLR”, “50mm”, “cinematic”). But the “real camera” look is mostly a choreography problem: lens behavior, sensor decisions, lighting falloff, and the messy physics of depth.

Your job in prompting isn’t to cosplay gear. It’s to describe the photograph’s intent—how the camera saw the scene.

Prompt pieces that actually work

  • Perspective distance cues: “camera far, subject closer” or “wide establishing shot”
  • Distortion control: “minimal distortion” or “slight barrel distortion”
  • Depth-of-field intent: “subject tack sharp, background falls off”
