Do I need a membership for a book I own?+
No — and you never will. Buying a book buys its interior for good: the download, the reader, and entry to its living edition, with nothing counting your visits. A membership adds the library around your shelf; it is never the price of what already sits on it.
Does Pen & Muse Studio include a reader membership?+
Yes. Studio membership carries the full Immersion membership with it — the premium dispatches, living editions across the catalogue, scenes read aloud, saves and exports, and the same monthly fuel. A writer never needs a second membership to read.
What can I create with my monthly ink?+
Drafting, editing, narration, page design and exports are included without measure. Ink is spent only on imagery and film. House images — the press’s own models, with the house’s prompting behind them — cost 1 ink each, so a month’s 5,000 ink is thousands of them; or about 125 fine images; or 40 short film clips; or any mix.
Does unused ink roll over?+
Yes. Ink sits in your well until you spend it; each billing month adds to what is there. Monthly reader fuel refills rather than rolls over — but reserve fuel you top up never expires.
Are fuel and ink the same thing?+
No. Fuel is the reader measure — it carries long evenings inside borrowed stories, conversations in dispatches, scenes read aloud. Ink is the Studio measure — it carries imagery and film made at the desk. Each has its own gauge and its own top-up, and neither draws on the other.
What happens when my fuel runs low?+
Nothing is lost. Your saves, worksheets and library stay exactly where they are — the borrowed doors simply rest until your gauge refills next month, or you can add reserve fuel at any time. Books you own are not affected at all.
Can I change plans without losing books, projects or saves?+
Yes. Memberships replace one another — you hold one at a time, pro-rated on your next bill — but nothing you own or made moves: the books on your shelf, your saves, your Studio projects, your ink and any reserve fuel all stay put.
What happens to my manuscripts if I cancel Studio?+
They remain yours. The Studio is local-first: your projects live on your machine and sync to your account, and you can export clean EPUB and PDF editions at any time. When the membership lapses, the desk’s editor and ink rest until you return; the manuscripts do not.
Can I publish outside Pen & Muse?+
Yes. Editions you export are yours to take anywhere, and writing in the Studio asks no exclusivity. If you bring a finished work to the Pen & Muse gate it walks the same road as every submission — a real reading, a real answer.
What is Dispatch+ compared to Explorer?+
Dispatch+ is pure reading patronage — premium dispatches, the full archive and subscriber-only series, with no fuel. Explorer includes all of that and opens the living side of the catalogue: the living editions, saves and replay.
What happens if I cancel?+
Any time, and gracefully. A lapsed membership closes the borrowed doors — the library, the premium dispatches — but your saves are kept for your return, and the books you own never close. Ownership is not a subscription.
